At Kingsway Primary School, we are committed to preparing our pupils to become caring, responsible and active members of society. Our school is built around our one school rule: Respect. We believe that by treating others with kindness, understanding and consideration, children learn to value diversity, celebrate differences and contribute positively to their community.

These values are woven throughout school life and are taught through our curriculum, assemblies, PSHE, Religious Education, pupil leadership opportunities and daily interactions. By promoting British Values, we help children to understand the importance of equality, respect, responsibility and active citizenship.
How We Promote British Values at Kingsway
Democracy
Children are encouraged to express their opinions, share ideas and understand that everyone's voice matters. Pupils take part in democratic processes through voting for representatives such as our School Council. They also contribute their views through pupil questionnaires, class discussions and leadership opportunities, helping them understand how democracy works and how they can make a positive difference.
The Rule of Law
Children learn the importance of rules and laws in keeping everyone safe, happy and able to learn. Our school expectations, behaviour policy and one school rule of Respect help pupils understand their rights and responsibilities, as well as the consequences of their choices. We reinforce these messages through assemblies, PSHE lessons and visits from members of the wider community, including the Police, Fire Service and other emergency services.
Individual Liberty
At Kingsway, we encourage children to become confident, independent learners who can make informed and responsible choices. Within our safe and supportive environment, pupils are taught about their rights, personal freedoms and responsibilities. Through PSHE, Relationships Education and Online Safety, children learn how to make positive decisions, stay safe and respect the choices of others.
Mutual Respect
Respect is at the heart of everything we do. Our one school rule of Respect underpins our relationships, behaviour and learning. Children are taught to value the opinions, beliefs and contributions of others, working collaboratively and treating everyone with kindness and consideration. Respect is promoted through assemblies, classroom discussions, our behaviour curriculum and everyday interactions across the school community.
Tolerance of Different Faiths and Beliefs
We celebrate the rich diversity of our local, national and global communities. Through our Religious Education curriculum, PSHE lessons, assemblies and wider curriculum experiences, children learn about different faiths, cultures and traditions. We encourage pupils to appreciate and respect different beliefs, challenge stereotypes and understand that everyone should be treated with dignity and fairness. Where possible, children enrich their learning through visits, visitors and experiences that broaden their understanding of the diverse world in which they live.
At Kingsway Community Primary School, British Values are not taught as a standalone subject; they are embedded throughout our curriculum and daily life.
