Physical Education

At Kingsway Primary School, we believe that Physical Education should be fun, inclusive and inspiring for every child. Our aim is to nurture a lifelong love of physical activity by providing a broad, balanced and engaging PE curriculum that enables all pupils to develop confidence, competence and enjoyment in being active.

Through high-quality teaching, a wide range of sports and physical activities, and opportunities to work collaboratively, children develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to lead healthy, active lives. We encourage every pupil to experience success, embrace challenge and understand the importance of teamwork, determination, resilience and respect.

From their very first PE lessons, children develop fundamental movement skills such as balance, coordination and agility. These skills are progressively built upon through a carefully sequenced curriculum that allows pupils to apply them in a variety of sports, games and physical challenges. As they move through the school, children become increasingly confident, capable and resilient learners who understand the value of regular physical activity.

At Kingsway Primary School, Physical Education is delivered through the Real PE scheme. This progressive, inclusive and skills-based curriculum develops not only children's physical abilities, but also their personal, social, cognitive and creative skills. Through carefully planned lessons, pupils build confidence, resilience, communication and teamwork while developing the knowledge, skills and motivation to enjoy lifelong participation in physical activity.

At Kingsway, we aim to ensure that:

  • Every child participates in at least two hours of high-quality PE each week.
  • All pupils develop confidence and competence across a broad range of physical activities.
  • Children are active for sustained periods during lessons, improving their fitness and wellbeing.
  • Every pupil has opportunities to take part in competitive sport and team events.
  • Healthy, active lifestyles are promoted both within school and beyond.
  • Children are encouraged to participate in extracurricular clubs.
  • All pupils are supported and challenged to achieve their full potential, regardless of their starting points or abilities.
  • Every child leaves Kingsway Primary School with the skills, confidence and enthusiasm to enjoy an active, healthy lifestyle throughout their lives.
At Kingsway, we are proud to have been awarded the Gold School Games Mark for our commitment to providing high-quality competitive sport and physical activity opportunities for all pupils across the school.
