Design and Technology

Design and Technology at Kingsway is lead by Mrs Shambrook. Our new approach to Design Technology is closely linked to our Geography and History topics, enabling children to make meaningful connections across the curriculum while developing their creativity and practical skills. Following the National Curriculum, pupils will work through a clear sequence of learning: Analyse → Explore Skills → Develop Ideas → Create → Evaluate. Children will begin by analysing the work of artists, designers and significant examples from the wider world. They will then explore and practise key skills and techniques before developing and refining their own ideas. Using this knowledge and understanding, pupils will create a final piece or product and will be encouraged to evaluate both their own work and the work of others. This progressive approach helps children build confidence, deepen their knowledge and develop the artistic and design skills needed to become thoughtful and innovative creators.
